Research Highlight: Multi-Parameter Fiber Sensor for Temperature and Bending
Dec 8, 2025
In this paper, published in November 2025, the authors demonstrate how a fiber Bragg grating (FBG) sensor in a specially designed two-core fiber can be used to measure temperature and bending direction simultaneously.
By analyzing wavelength shifts and intensity changes, the sensor can determine temperature, bending magnitude, and bending direction in one setup. This enables multi-parameter monitoring with a single sensor that is compact, easy to multiplex, and attractive for embedding.
The work by co-author Daniel Maldonado-Hurtado is supported by the Smartmooring project.
